Get ready for baby! It’s an exciting time. I remember when I was pregnant, getting excited and prepared waiting on this special moment for 9 months, and now it’s here! It’s finally time to bring home your bundle of joy and start a life together with mom, dad, and baby. It’s a fairy tale. But… how do you get ready for baby? I’ve put together some tips to make welcoming home your baby easier and less worrisome.
Get Ready for Baby – You Can Do It!
Preparing for the arrival of our little bundle of joy, doesn’t have to be scary. It takes a few things , and you’ll be able to get right down to the fun parts of hanging with the baby.
First things first.
- Make sure the house is baby proofed.
- Place plastic plug guards in ALL outlets, cause kids WILL stick their fingers in there
- Be sure all cabinet doors have baby proof latches on them.
- Stairs? Baby gates a must.
- Check that there aren’t any cords hanging down that baby can grab and topple over any objects.
Messy house alert! You’d be surprised how quickly babies begin playing with toys. Their little minds grow at an astonishing rate, and in no time at all, they’re reaching for any and everything to investigate. Have plenty of baby toys on hand, so they can investigate without danger.
One would think that having diapering supplies on hand when you get ready for baby, might seem like a no-brainer to……..but I have seen it happen. Usually, the problem is that new parents don’t realize just how often they’ll be changing diapers. Take it from me, you’re going to need TONS of diapers, diaper rash cream and lots of detergent! I advise making a section in the baby’s closet for all of those things.
Don’t Change Routine
It’s a common misconception that you have to change your routine when you bring the baby home. That’s not true. In fact, you shouldn’t. Just because your baby is home doesn’t mean you have to start living like you’re in a library. Continue to watch television, listen to music, talk to people, etc. the way you always have. All changing your routine will do is get your baby used to living in a monastery and make him or her super sensitive to noise.
Finally, when you bring home baby, you’ll want a detergent that won’t irritate his or her skin. For years, Dreft’s powerful, yet gentle on baby’s skin formula has been the go to choice among parents and dermatologists. In fact, Dreft is the #1 baby laundry detergent choice of pediatricians and the #1 dermatologist recommended brand for baby clothes. Dreft Newborn and Active Baby detergents are hypoallergenic and gentle on baby’s skin while still destroying tough stains. And it’s got that great baby scent. Ahhhh.
My daughter is now 18 years old and I used Dreft, and just like me, Sean and Catherine Lowes’ parents used Dreft, as well. That’s why these former stars of The Bachelor have partnered with Dreft to celebrate their new journey into parenthood, and they’re chronicling it all with the hashtag #Amazinghood. After you get your home baby proofed and bring home baby, follow Dreft on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and look for #Amazinghood, where Sean and Catherine will be sharing their exclusive content and messy memories!
