Summer is around the corner and I’m ready to travel are you? Today I share with you an exciting Staycation Link Up with other bloggers from all over the country! I live in the Orlando area, and while it’s known for its theme parks, there’s so much more to see and do here. In fact, this year my family is considering a staycation to take advantage of everything in our area and make it easy on us and our pocket book.
A Staycation in Orlando – Family Fun and a Bit of Culture
Orlando is a bustling city, and as such, it’s filled with all kinds of interesting destinations for a staycation that are easy to get to and get into. They’re also fun and interesting. I love theme parks, but sometimes, I just don’t want to battle the crazy masses! I’ll share some St. Augustine staycation ideas here for visitors. Locals can start with this list of freebies for locals.
King’s Bowl Orlando
King’s Bowl is a great family fun staycation destination. Who doesn’t love to bowl? King’s Bowl is no hole-in-the-wall bowling alley. It’s quite nice. It’s super clean, it has wonderful atmosphere, and most importantly, you can enjoy it for $7.00 per person per game. That’s a great deal on some great family fun.
The Enzian is Central Florida’s only theater completely devoted to alternative cinema. They offer independent and classic films as well as annual film festivals and community events. You can’t beat $10.00 for general admission and $8.00 pricing for seniors, students, and matinees.
Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf
Pirate’s Cove is a great family mini-golf courses favorite, and it’s the perfect destination for a family friendly staycation destination in Orlando. This mini-golf course does the pirate them to the hilt. It is SO much fun! You can get 18 holes for $10.45, and for a little more, you can get 36 holes! What??
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando Odditorium
Remember this show? Well, they have a museum! This is a great staycation destination because it has all kinds of interesting and extremely odd artifacts, art, and interactive exhibits for the whole family to enjoy. It’s a ton of fun for only $16.99 for adults and $10.99 for children.
A Little Culture
Winter Park Scenic Boat Tours
If you want to enjoy the beauty of nature on your Orlando staycation, then this is the destination for you. This narrated cruise through the lakes and canals of historic Winter Park showcases the wildlife and mansions that line the waterways. At $12.00 for adults and $6.00 for children it’s a wonderful, affordable staycation destination.
Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens
Spend the day enjoying wonderful flora and fauna without spending a ton of money. This is a wonderful and affordable staycation destination that showcases hundreds of rare and endangered animals and 800 species of plants and flowers. It’s only $16.50 for adults, $13.95 for seniors, and $11.95 for children.
The Mennello Museum of American Art
This is a great staycation destination in Orlando to get in a little culture. It features a wide variety of sculptures and paintings including contemporary American folk art and pieces by Earl Cunningham. At $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors, and $1.00 for students and children, it’s a super affordable way to take in some art.
Orlando Museum of Art
This is the perfect family friendly museum for a great staycation experience in Orlando. In addition to its local, national, and international artwork, it offers two discovery centers for children featuring interactive activities. It’s a wonderful way to get the kids interested and involved in art, and it’s only $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and college students, and $5.00 for children.
West Volusia County
I live in West Volusia County, a large area of Florida, and much of it is fairly close to Orlando. It gets an honorable mention as a staycation destination in the Orlando/Daytona area for its proximity to the city and its wide variety of flora, fauna, and activities such as hiking, camping, and tours. It’s a wonderful staycation destination and it’s my backyard!
Staycation in Your Hometown for Some Backyard Fun
A vacation doesn’t always mean a plane ride or a road trip. Sometimes it’s nice to just stay close to home. It reduces stress and cost, and it’s a great way to discover everything your community and the surrounding area has to offer. I listed some of my favorite staycation destinations in my home town of Orlando, and all it takes to find these places is a quick Google search.
You can do the same thing with your hometown area. So when vacation time rolls around. Fire up Google and make your next family trip a staycation extravaganza. It’s fun!
