Car Lease Strategies that can help Moms Save Money
Acquiring a vehicle is hard enough without all the red tape you need to go through, not to mention the fees you have to pay. For someone who has no background in finance and dealing with cars, it can be overwhelming.
Single moms looking for a vehicle may opt to get a car lease because of its low cost and the convenience it promises. Unfortunately, single moms become the target of agents and dealers that will give them less than what they are willing to pay.
To prevent these people from taking advantage of you, you need to be prepared. It’s a lot like playing poker. You let them think you have more than you do. Sometimes the bluff is enough, but it never hurts to have an ace up your sleeve. So, without further ado, here are some handy car lease strategy tips for moms looking to get a good deal on their lease.
Know what you want. Do yourself a favor and do your homework. One of the reasons moms become the primary target is because they usually express their inability to choose a car. The dealer senses this and ends up selling them a pricier car that can’t live up to what it’s expected to do. Find out what you need and know all about the car makes and models and the features they offer. This way, you know what you want, giving the salesperson very little room to work with.
Get quotes ahead of time. While you’re researching your vehicle of choice, do your research on the dealership you plan to visit and keep a record of their price range on your phone. If you see a price on for the car you want, keep that in mind. Make it hard for them to try and fool you into paying more than what it says on their website. This is also an excellent way to draw up a potential financial plan for the car you want.
Check dealership inventory. Before talking to anyone, go to their yard to scout for the car make and model you want. If you see it there, take this time to note any damage to the vehicle’s exterior. Check for any dents, scratches, and check the tires as well. If you can, try to look inside just to get an idea of what the inside looks like. Are the seats in good condition? Are there any stains on the carpet or seats? Does the steering wheel look stable? Again, take note of these before going in to talk someone about the car.
Negotiate. Once you’re done scouting the lot for your car of choice, gather all the confidence you can muster and talk to the agent in the dealership about getting the car you want. In case the vehicle you are looking for is outside, you have the upper hand and can play the “I’m doing you a favor by taking this car off your lot” card. Real estate space is vital to these people. The faster they move their old stocks, the better. And when you’re negotiating the price, focus first on the cap cost of the vehicle in question. Only bring up leasing the car after you’ve agreed at a cap cost.
Be ready to walk away. Sometimes, negotiations don’t work out the way we want them to. Prepare yourself for this scenario and be prepared to walk away from the negotiation in case you and the dealer cannot come to an agreement. The salesperson will either stop you halfway to the door to try and get you to stays or let you leave in peace with his dignity intact. In case of the latter, just try to find another dealer who will be more willing to negotiate an agreement.
Don’t just go for the first thing you see in the lot of a dealership. Be wise in making this financial decision by being prepared and not backing down from the salesperson who will do everything in their power to try and sell you a car with features that you know deep down; you can live without. Stick to your targeted vehicle and the price you are most comfortable with, and it’s almost certainly a guarantee that you get the best deal for your car.
