Disclosure: This post is part of my all expense paid trip to Los Angeles, CA provided by Disney, in exchange for coverage. However, opinions are 100% mine.
Bronte Carmichael plays Christopher Robin’s daughter, Madeline in the new Christopher Robin filmed. During my recent trip to Los Angeles for the Christopher Red Carpet Premiere Event, we also had the opportunity to interview this super talented young lady!
We learned how Bronte found out that she had received the part of Madeline Robin and it was so interesting! She told us she made three audition tapes and then was not told that she had received the part. She told us that her mother had, “put a stuffed, stuffed version of Eeyore on the bench in the garden. And, it had a note tied to its back saying, looking forward to our adventures in the Hundred Acre Woods.” What a fun way to find out that you’re going to be in a live action film depicting the adult story of Christopher Robin and to work with both your parents in the same film!
YES! Bronte’s mom, Katy Carmichael, and dad, Tristan Sturrock, played Christopher Robin’s parents in the film.
When asked what her favorite stuffed animal is in the Christopher Robin film, Bronte answered,
“I like them all. Uh, ‘cause like, you can’t really like one, ‘cause they all have different personalities, like, they act just like, almost like emotions, like, they’re, Eeyore can be gloomy, sometimes you can feel like Eeyore, sometimes you can feel like Tiger, like, really bouncy. But you know, I quite like Piglet. And at the end of shooting it, they gave me the Piglet to take home.”
“So Piglet, sometimes like, I can be nervous about some things, especially with acting, like, there are certain things that you can’t like, that can like scare you. They can be certain takes that you aren’t that confident on, you can feel like Piglet sometimes. And then when you’re with Tigger you can be really excited about something. Like, I was definitely excited about coming to Disneyland. When I was in LA, so you know, I felt like Tigger.”
Bronte told us that she has tons of stuffed animals at home, so playing a role with stuffed animals wasn’t much different than when she’s at home playing with her own beloved stuffed animals. Her parents told her some advice before acting on the big screen, “be yourself” and “don’t overact with the stuffed animals.”
Bronte Carmichael had doubles to fill in for stunts and photos, etc. These doubles were two people that Bronte says she formed a friendship with. Bronte went on to talk about her doubles!
“There was a stunt double and a picture double. And they were called Martha and Anabelle, and we always liked to trick people: the producers and stuff would always get us confused. So we’d make like, little silent movies, like whilst they were filming in the studio next door, we’d be making our own movies. I remember once making like our own little mini James Bond movie with all of us.”
Do you have a favorite line in the movie? Maybe something that sticks in your head that you like?
“Well, the one scene that they have changed throughout, lots and lots and lots, is the train carriage scene. They kept the line where Madeline’s explaining to Pooh that nothing comes from nothing, and then Pooh tells her that nothing is the very best thing, and that’s the line that I remember the most.”
How was it working with your mom as your grandmother on Cristopher Robin?
“It was quite funny actually. I knew the boy who played young Christopher Robin and sometimes we drove back to the hotel together. We’d have these weird conversations about, like, my mum’s playing my grandma, and then my dad’s playing my grandpa, and it’s all a bit confusing”.
Christopher Robin is now in theaters everywhere. It’s a magical film that anyone can relate to. Bronte Carmichael is a fabulous Madeline Robin and was very fun to chat with during the Christopher Robin Red Carpet Premiere. Check out the trailer:
