Even though this is a non-paying position, it is great job experience for teens. If they just need something to do because of boredom, this is an ideal option. Shelters do have paid employees. They are run by donations and grants, so additional funds for extra staff is not available. Shelters rely on volunteers to keep their doors open.
Babysitting, besides being fun is one of the most common jobs for teenagers and it pays very well. It gives the teenager a sense of accomplishments good. Even though a teen is ready, responsible and eager to start making a salary, it is important to remind them the importance of caring for children. It is a lot of work and safety. So it’s important for them to consider the pros and cons.
Teens make wonderful elderly companions. Some senior centers and elderly living facilities will offer summer jobs for teens. These positions are simply to come in and spend time with their members. Some seniors do not have family that is close by, so visiting with teens is like spending time with their grandchildren to them. This is a fun experience for a teen that doubles as a life experience.
Teens often have a lot of energy. The best way to burn that energy is through activity. Rather than keeping dogs kenneled all day or cooped up inside a doggy daycare, teens can take dogs for nice, long walks in their neighborhoods. If there is a dog park or open field nearby, the teen can keep the dog on the leash but run it a little bit so it spends some of its energy.
Keeping teens busy or earning money, over their summer break from school prevents boredom. It also prevents them from potentially dangerous situations where they may end up with the wrong crowd.
