The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, and Coca-Cola are partnering to bring more educational opportunities to Hispanic children. Education is important to Hispanic families, but opportunities can be difficult to come by. That’s why Coca-Cola is joining with the HSF again to help make the higher education dreams of Hispanic young people a reality.
A Story of Education in a Hispanic Family
Spoiler alert. The family is mine. My daughter Marilu, has always been an excellent student. She just has a natural talent for academics. As I watched her grow in mind and spirit, I saw a young girl who was going to take on the world one day. She did, and she is. Through her extensive work in STEM, both at school, conventions and gatherings around the country, she became an academic force of nature. She’s currently at NYU on a full ride all they way to her PhD, and I’m so, so proud of her.
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Coca-Cola
BEYOND happy is an understatement of how I feel that Coca-Cola has partnered with The Hispanic Scholarship Fund through the #ForTheDream program. Coca-Cola is proud to continue a long-standing relationship of 35-years with HSF.
This union will help make the higher education dreams of Hispanic young people something that’s fully attainable. Coca-Cola understands the importance of education in Hispanic families. They also understand that sometimes, those families lack the resources to give their children the futures that they deserve.
As part of the Coca-Cola Hispanic Scholarship Fund For the Dream National Scholarship Program, the company is donating $150,000 to HSF. These funds will be awarded to qualifying students who apply from January 1st through March 30th, 2016 at coke.com/ForTheDream. Such a great way to give Hispanic families the push they need to put their children on a track to a solid college education and an even more solid future.
These funds in conjunction with the #ForTheDream program will help Hispanic youth get into college. That’s important, because although college enrollment has been steadily increasing at a good tick for the past 20 years, the Hispanic population is still has the lowest rate of college enrollment. In some cases, it’s due to socio-economic considerations. In some cases, the kids are focused more on bringing money into the family than they are on school. Whatever the reason, the #ForTheDream program with Coca-Cola and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund aims to get those kids into college with funds and with the tools to help their parents guide them towards college with preparation, planning, and, of course, the funds to pay for it.
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Coca-Cola – Helping Hispanic Kids Achieve Their Full Potential
As a Hispanic mother of a child in college, I know firsthand the incredible amount of pride I feel when I see what she’s accomplished and what she will accomplish. If I really try, I can also feel the incredible loss it would be if she’d never had those opportunities.
With the #ForTheDream program from Coca-Cola and The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, more parents can feel that sense of pride and not that sense of loss for what might have been for their kids. Education is the foundation that a great life is built on, and I’m so glad that the #ForTheDream program is there to help Hispanics all across the country achieve it. So what are you waiting for? Apply now through March 30th, 2016 at coke.com/ForTheDream.
