Keep your teeth healthy this Halloween, the most candied holiday of the year. Halloween is here again, and that means candy as far as the eye can see. We’ll be stuffing our faces full of all kinds of sugary treats from candy bars to hard candies, and loving every sugary second of it. While you and yours are chowing down on delicious treats, remember to keep your teeth healthy. It’s more important than ever when Halloween rolls around because bacteria loves to munch out on all that sugar in our mouths. That means we have to pay special attention to our teeth.
Keep Your Teeth Healthy While You Chow Down
Halloween is the most candy-filled holiday of the year, and Crest is the most trusted brand of toothpaste and other oral care products. So it makes sense that Crest would do a survey on the holiday and how we celebrate it. The facts they found in their Crest Candy Confessions Survey were very interesting. One of the biggest facts – and the reason parents and kids need to stay on point with their teeth – is one we moms already know: we eat a lot of our kids’ candy.
In addition to our children scarfing down those delicious sugary treats, we parents consume our fair share. In fact, the average parent eats about 25% of their children’s candy. We also use Halloween as an excuse to give ourselves a little something extra this time of year. 73% of people purposely buy more Halloween candy than they need so they can eat the extra. I know I’m guilty of that.
These statistics are why it’s so important to remember to keep your teeth healthy, especially during this time. Of course, children and adults should be brushing and flossing twice daily, but when Halloween rolls around, I like to increase that to three times a day. When Mimi was living at home, we made sure to brush in the morning, mid-day, and at night during the days surrounding Halloween just to be sure we got rid of all that sugar on our teeth. We love Halloween candy… 😉
Enjoy the Candy and Brush Those Teeth
This Halloween, enjoy that candy. The holiday was designed for it, after all. However, while you’re enjoying all those sweets, remember to keep your teeth healthy, as well. Increase your brushing and flossing to three times a day and use Crest oral care products. I like to use the pre-rinse, toothpaste, and mouthwash to ensure that my teeth and mouth are super fresh and free of as much plaque and bacteria as possible from all that candy. They’re an excellent combo to keep my mouth healthy and fresh in spite of all that candy!
